Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza began on October 7, 2023, following a historic operation by Hamas-led groups in response to escalating atrocities against Palestinians.
Since then, the occupation regime has killed at least 46,788 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and injured approximately 110,450 others in Gaza.
On Wednesday evening, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani announced a ceasefire mediated by Qatar and Egypt.
The agreement is structured in three phases and is scheduled to take effect on Sunday and last for 42 days.
The truce aims to end the devastating Israeli aggression, and includes a major prisoner exchange, where 1,000 prisoners will be released from Gaza in addition to hundreds of detainees serving long sentences.
The first stage stipulates the release of 33 prisoners, including children, women, female soldiers, men over the age of 50, and the wounded, with a gradual and partial withdrawal of Israeli forces.
Shortly after the announcement of the ceasefire agreement, Arab media and social media users reacted to the agreement.
Arabic-speaking analysts confirm that Tel Aviv’s withdrawal from its stubborn positions on the Gaza Strip, especially the Netzarim and Philadelphia corridors, means that the Zionist regime has admitted a major defeat in the face of the resistance of the Palestinian forces.
The Israeli media i24 News report highlights that Israel made major concessions in the ceasefire agreement, but Hamas is emerging stronger than before.
Abdel Bari Atwan, a Palestinian-born British journalist and editor-in-chief of Rai Al-Youm newspaper, said the current agreement reflects a victory for the Palestinian people, as evidenced by the sombre statements of Netanyahu and his government.
He points out that Netanyahu is unlikely to celebrate this agreement, while the wave of joy among the Palestinians indicates their success.
Atwan asserts that Netanyahu’s goals have not been achieved during the past 15 months, and that it was the continued resistance of the Palestinian people that forced him to accept the deal.
The Lebanese Al-Mayadeen TV network reported that after 15 months of Zionist atrocities in the Gaza Strip, the Tel Aviv authorities were forced to respond to the legitimate demands of the resistance in light of the extremely complex circumstances controlling the occupied territories.
However, these same officials have repeatedly and publicly opposed this demand, claiming that they would continue the war against the Gaza Strip indefinitely, but have now been forced to accept a ceasefire after suffering a heavy defeat.
One of the users wrote on his @aalnassi account on social media that the Hamas movement is still steadfast to the point that it can target deep into the occupied territory until the last minute.
Another user @mohamedAMonailm wrote: “The Zionist regime killed 81 Palestinians after the ceasefire agreement.” Is this the same enemy that many countries are competing with for normalization?
As one user @alsafi_husien wrote: “History will write that the Shiites allocated all their wealth to Gaza.” We thank Iran, Lebanon and Yemen.
