The invitation, the first known conversation among the presidents since Trump took office last month, came a day after Russia launched an American prisoner in the country, CNN said.
Trump administration officials said they hope that the stock market will be able to transfer renewable efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine, which is about to enter its fourth year.
In a reading of the conversation published on the social truth, Trump said: “We discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, energy, artificial intelligence, the strength of the dollar and various other issues.”
Trump was referring to weeks of his desire to speak with Putin working to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
“We have agreed to work together, closely, including visiting each other. We also agreed to start our difference in negotiations immediately, and we will start contacting President Zelenskyy, from Ukraine, to inform him of the conversation, which I will do now.”
His ancestor, former President Joe Biden, has not spoken to his Russian counterpart for nearly three years.
