The 15th General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) was launched under the slogan “Accelerating the Transition to Renewable Energy – The Way Forward” in Abu Dhabi, with the participation of 170 member states.
Iran’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Reza Ameri, stressed Iran’s commitment to developing renewable energies.
Noting Iran’s status as one of the major oil and gas producers, he said that Iran has so far installed about 1.3 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, including solar, wind, biomass and small hydropower plants.
Explaining Iran’s future programs, the envoy announced that the country aims to increase renewable energy capacity to 30,000 megawatts by 2030 under the Vision 2031 plan.
As a new member of the Council of the International Renewable Energy Agency, Iran declared its readiness to play an active role in reviewing programs and budgets and enhancing cooperation among member states.
The diplomat stressed the need to strengthen international solidarity to achieve the goal of tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030.
He then called for comprehensive cooperation to ensure a sustainable and just future in the energy sector.
