According to him, the Iranian side intends to develop cooperation with Russia in the construction and operation of small and large nuclear power plants, the Azerbaijani website reported in English.
Likhachev noted that negotiations on building another huge nuclear power plant in Iran will begin soon.
The official stressed that there is a need to amend the agreements between the two countries in the field of building small nuclear power plants. The Russian side has sent the relevant protocol to the Iranian side.
He added that the first unit at the Iranian Bushehr nuclear power plant is currently operating. Despite sanctions and pressure, construction of the second and third units of the Bushehr nuclear power plant continues.
In 2011, the first unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran began operations. An Iranian company took over the operation of the unit from Rosatom in 2013. Since 2013, this unit has produced the maximum amount of electricity, 1,000 megawatt hours of electricity. Over the past ten years, electricity generation at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant has exceeded 65 billion kilowatt-hours.
It should be noted that the construction of the Bushehr 2 and 3 nuclear energy complexes began in 2017 on an area of 50 hectares. Once operational, each of these units can generate 1,057 megawatts of electricity. Operating these two units will save 10 million barrels of crude oil or 1.6 billion cubic meters of gas annually, and prevent the release of 7 million tons of environmentally polluting gases.
Construction work on Bushehr Nuclear Power Units 2 and 3 is currently 17 percent completed.
